Good Employment Charter - Jake's First Big Project With SAZ MEDIA
In March 2023, Jake began an exciting journey with SAZ MEDIA, taking on various roles within the Good Employment Charter (GEC) project.
From capturing photographs to conducting insightful interviews, Jake has been a big part of filming the nominees, the awards, the finalists, and the Good Employment Week. In this case study, we aim to reveal Jake's experience and the impact he has had, showcasing the significance of his contributions in shedding light on the companies and individuals striving for better workplaces.
Here is Jake's reflection on his experience and the skills he gained and improved during his role, working with the Good Employment Charter:
“As a photographer and filmer, I would capture the companies, as in the place where the people work, the people themselves, and some of the behind the scenes. I had the chance to see some of the winners and nominees in a more intimate manner, as I could see some of the work and effort that usually isn’t seen and appreciated. However, my roles gave me the chance to capture these moments and shed some of the light on the companies and individuals that work their hardest to create a better life or space for others.
Furthermore, I worked as an interviewer. This involved me asking individuals at some of the company’s questions and shedding light on what they do and why they deserve an award. This was a first for me I had never interviewed anyone before. Thankfully, I received some good guidance, and my confidence improved quickly in this role. By the end, I was excited to talk to some of the individuals and learn more about what they do.
Speaking to the people that I spoke to was an absolute pleasure an inspiration, as they were all very passionate about their roles and were all looking to improve for themselves as well as for others. Additionally, hearing from the people who have already done so much looking to do even more was really impressive.”
“Having the chance to work with the Good Employment Charter was a pleasure, and I really enjoyed the experience, it also allowed me the chance to improve on multiple skills of my own, such as photography, filming, interviewing and editing. This being one of the first big projects that I worked on with SAZ Media was a really fun experience, and it gave me the chance to get to know the people that I work with and really settle in.” - Jake
With each frame captured and every interview conducted, Jake played a crucial part in highlighting the importance of Good Employment practices and the positive impact they have on individuals and communities at large.
As an organisation we strive to learn and continually practice the 7 characteristics of the charter and ensure Good Employment is a continued conversation within the team. This project has further reinforced our commitment to fostering a positive work environment where everyone's contributions are valued and supported.
We look forward to sharing the films and photographs soon.

Highlights from a Month of Empowering and Inspiring Events
Welcome to this month’s blog. As the month comes to a close, it's time to reflect on the inspiring projects we’ve been working on.
From the country's first-ever Good Employment Week to the launch of Your Good Homes Magazine, the opening of a new office in Salford, the adventures of National Bike Week, the spirit of volunteerism during Volunteer Week, and the appreciation for the wonders of Garden Wildlife, our days were filled with diverse experiences.
These events provided incredible opportunities for growth and connection.
At SAZ MEDIA, we are thrilled to have been actively involved with the Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter. The Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter seeks to assist employers in providing quality jobs that contribute to the growth, development, and prosperity of the entire Greater Manchester region. By promoting good employment practices, the charter aims to create a thriving economy and enhance the overall well-being of employees.
One of the highlights of our involvement in Good Employment Week (19th to 24th June) was the opportunity to create films showcasing the impactful work of the Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter and the organisations involved in the movement. Our talented team travelled throughout Greater Manchester, capturing inspiring stories of individuals dedicated to improving workplace conditions and fostering positive change.
These films served as powerful tools for raising awareness about the importance of good employment practices. By sharing the stories of organisations and individuals committed to creating a better work environment, we aimed to inspire others to join the movement and prioritise the well-being and growth of their own employees.
Through these films, we showcased the seven key characteristics of good employment, highlighting how they were being implemented by various organisations within Greater Manchester. The films emphasised the positive impact of these practices on employees' lives, productivity, and overall job satisfaction.
By collaborating with the Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter and creating these films, we were able to contribute our expertise in visual storytelling to effectively communicate the significance of good employment practices. We are proud to have played a part in sharing these narratives and inspiring others to embrace and adopt similar practices in their own workplaces.
Overall, our collaboration with the Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter and the creation of these films have been a fulfilling experience for our team. We are grateful for the opportunity to have contributed to the movement for good employment in Greater Manchester, and we remain committed to supporting and promoting this vital cause in the future.

We were incredibly fortunate to be part of the Your Good Homes magazine project and attend its launch on June 20th. Our Executive Director, Sara, and our Camera Trainee, Jake, collaborated with Unlimited Potential to capture images for the magazine. The featured magazine images were curated by young people who have experienced homelessness in Salford.
But that's not all. We also created an inspiring film for the project, which we showcased at the magazine's launch event. The film also features stunning aerial shots taken with Sara's impressive drone piloting skills. To stay updated, be sure to follow us on our social media platforms where we'll be sharing both the film and the images.
Working on this project has been an incredible experience for us. Through film and photography, we've been able to contribute to positive change within the community, with the potential for even greater systemic impact. Along the way, we've had the privilege of meeting and being inspired by amazing young people and families in Salford.
We Have Moved to a New Office!
We are thrilled to announce that our growing team will now call a new location in the heart of Salford home, starting from tomorrow, June 30th. This move allows us to fully embrace all the benefits and opportunities that Salford has to offer, fostering a vibrant culture within our organisation and encouraging engagement and collaboration among our team members.
We want to assure you that we're not done with our work in Stockport. We have workshops planned over the summer, and we will always remain a part of Sector 3 and Proper Good Stockport.
While we cherished our time in Stockport over the past 7 years, we see this relocation as the beginning of an exciting new chapter for SAZ MEDIA. We're still in the process of settling in and adding our personal touches to the office, ensuring it caters to everyone's work styles. The prospect of having a dedicated space where we can come together and collaborate fills us with tremendous excitement.
If you happen to be in the area, we invite you to drop by and say hello! We can't wait to fully settle in and transform our new Hub into a space that truly reflects our identity. We look forward to welcoming you through our doors soon.

Celebrating Bike Week 100 (5th - 11th June), a great opportunity to promote cycling for everyone! This year, Bike Week was even more special as it celebrated its 100th anniversary 🎉🚴🏻
Watch the video of our photography cycling adventure across Stockport, where we went on a photography cycling adventure across Stockport, alongside the fantastic team at Cera Cycloan and our enthusiastic workshop group. 📸🚴🏻We are delighted to have had the wonderful opportunity to be involved in promoting fitness and well-being in young people through our photography workshop.
The purpose of the rides was to improve our health and well-being, which meant experiencing more green spaces, connecting with our environment, getting to know our local community, and enhancing our fitness. Capturing images along the way helped us develop our photography skills, gain different perspectives, and being with others improved our communication skills.
We encourage everyone to grab a bike from their local cycle hire facilities, especially now when it’s the season of summer. Summer is a great time to start cycling, discovering the numerous benefits of cycling, whether you're running errands, prioritising your mental and physical health, or commuting to work. 🚴♂️🌿
During Volunteer Week, we shone the light on on Chris, our Volunteer for our deaf photographer Tolu.
Since joining us in 2018, Chris has been an invaluable asset, dedicating his years to educating and advocating for the deaf community. DEPHER CIC UK FUNDRAISING FILM
At SAZ MEDIA, we take great pride in being a part of meaningful projects that make a positive impact on people's lives. Recently, we had the privilege of working with DEPHER CIC UK, a UK-based social enterprise dedicated to providing essential plumbing and heating services to vulnerable older and disabled individuals. Through our photography and videography expertise, we aimed to capture the heart and soul of DEPHER's incredible work, showcasing their mission and inspiring others to contribute to their cause.
DEPHER, A Lifeline for the Vulnerable. DEPHER, short for Disability and Elderly Plumbing and Heating Emergency Repair, was established in 2017 with a noble vision in mind. They set out to offer free or affordable emergency plumbing and heating services to those in need, ensuring that vulnerable individuals have access to warmth, comfort, and safety in their homes.
DEPHER relies significantly on public donations to cover the costs of labour and materials required to carry out their essential services. It is through these generous contributions that they can provide free services during the winter months when the need for heating and hot water is most crucial. During the summer, they offer discounted rates to ensure ongoing support for their beneficiaries. DEPHER understands the financial challenges faced by their clients, and they even allocate a portion of their funds to assist those struggling to afford basic necessities like food for themselves and their families.
At SAZ MEDIA, we recognised the incredible impact DEPHER was making in the lives of vulnerable individuals. Through our lens, we aimed to capture the passion, dedication, and humanity behind DEPHER's work. By creating a fundraising film, we aimed to tell the story of DEPHER's mission, showcasing the real-life stories of those they have helped and the positive transformation they bring to communities.
Working alongside DEPHER has been a remarkable experience for us at SAZ MEDIA. We are grateful for the opportunity to use our craft to shed light on their inspiring work, capturing the essence of their mission in a way that connects deeply with their viewers. DEPHER's dedication to serving vulnerable individuals, their commitment to community support, and their reliance on public donations highlight the importance of teaming up together to create a brighter future for those in need. Together, let us continue supporting initiatives like DEPHER that bring warmth, comfort, and hope to those who need it most.
We invite each and every one of you, our valued readers, to become a part of a meaningful cause. By attaching a link at the end of this blog, we offer you an opportunity to make a genuine difference in the lives of those in need through the power of your donations.

ISG Site Photography In Bristol City Centre
In this blog we’ll explore the experience of one of our team members photography who recently had the opportunity to document the work being done at the ISG site. We will explore his unique perspective, dedication, and how he navigated his role at the site. Through Tolu S lens, we'll witness the details and remarkable progress taking place on-site, in the heart of Bristol city centre.
A Glimpse into the Journey:
When Sara, our Executive Director extended an invitation for me to accompany her on the SAZ MEDIA’s photography project in Bristol city centre, I eagerly accepted, unaware of the adventure that awaited me. After a long car journey to the hotel in Bristol, I found myself filled with anticipation for the moments I would capture through my lens.
Arriving at the ISG site the following morning, I was ready to get to work with Sara by my side, guiding me through every step of the way. As an individual who is profoundly deaf with no speech or hearing, I rely solely on my vision to perceive the world around me, including all the crucial aspects of health and safety we had to follow. With hard hats, steel cap boots, and hi-vis jackets on, Sara and I embarked on our mission, capturing the site's workers hard work being done.
Fully aware of the importance of precise instructions, I relied on Sara's guidance as I prepared to document the different roles of the site workers through my lens. Recognising the need for proper exposure, I used my speedlight, ensuring each shot would capture the scene in its truest form. Surrounded by skilled professionals from plasterers to painters, plumbers to panel fitters, carpenters to electricians, I seized the opportunity to document their unique contributions to the building's progress.
Unveiling the Results:
Returning home, I reviewed the images captured during the shoot. I was amazed by how interesting they were and what a great opportunity I'd had working on this project. My photographs revealed captivating moments, each narrating a story of dedication, craftsmanship, and collaboration. Curiosity fuelled my desire to understand the tools and equipment being used in one particular image. A quick internet search revealed that it was a dust extractor—an essential component of the site's health and safety standards.
At SAZ MEDIA, we ensure that our team members feel valued and find happiness in their work. We prioritise open communication, actively seeking their insights and experiences, as we believe it plays a vital role in building a stronger and more cohesive workplace.

Building Skills with Wates – A Trainee's Exciting Journey in Construction
At SAZ MEDIA, we are committed to providing our trainees and apprentices with opportunities to gain practical experience and develop their skills. We believe that investing in our people is essential to building a strong and successful team.
Our 22-year-old Camera Trainee, Jake Cunningham had a fantastic experience working with Wates, and we are thrilled to hear about the skills and knowledge he gained. We are always excited to hear what our team members have to say about their experiences, and we encourage them to share their insights with us.
Please continue to read on and discover more about our Camera Trainee Jake’s first-hand account of his experience working alongside industry professionals in the construction sector in his own words:
As a Camera Trainee working for SAZ MEDIA, I had the opportunity to join a team from Wates on site visits to three construction sites in the North East. It was an exciting experience, and I learned a lot about photography, teamwork, and adapting to new environments.
On Monday 3rd April, I travelled from Manchester to Sunderland to meet Sara our Executive Director and Phil our Video Producer to work alongside the Wates team. Our first stop was at the new Gigafactory being built in the area. My task was to capture photographs of the build and the tour taking place around it. This was my first time working on a job of this scale, and I was thrilled to be a part of it.
During the visit, I learned how to capture photos on the move, at a fast pace, and in a constantly changing environment. I had to be adaptable, creative, and focused to get the best shots possible. It was fun and exciting. I felt like I was learning a lot with every photo I took.
During my time in Sunderland with Wates, I had the opportunity to visit their Prism pop-up facility. As a photographer, I was tasked with capturing images of the facility and the work being done there. This experience proved to be invaluable as I not only enhanced my photography skills, but I was also left in awe of the sheer size and impressive work being carried out. The visit made a lasting impression on me, and I left feeling inspired and enriched. Overall, my time at the Prism pop-up facility was an incredible experience that has broadened my skills and allowed me to capture the beauty of the construction industry in a whole new way.
Our third stop was at a new build at Teesside University, Middlesbrough. Once again, I was tasked with capturing photographs of a tour taking place. This time, I also had the opportunity to observe Sara and Phil at work and learn from their experience. I learned about the different types of things to look for, the best angles to take photos from, and how to use natural lighting to my advantage. It was a valuable lesson, and I felt more confident in my abilities after watching them work.
Throughout my visit, I was impressed by the professionalism and friendliness of everyone I worked with. They made the work enjoyable and created a positive environment for learning. I appreciated their patience and willingness to share their expertise with me.
Overall, the experience was invaluable, and I feel more confident and skilled as a result. I am eager to continue improving and producing the best results possible. I am grateful for the opportunity I got to work with Wates and gain hands-on experience in the construction industry. I am looking forward to the next job and the chance to further develop my skills.

Julie Payne from Wates (Business Partner - Major Projects) also had some positive feedback to share about our Camera Trainee, Jake Cunningham’s experience with Wates:
“At the beginning of April, I appointed the SAZ MEDIA team to visit the North East to promote key sites in the region as part of a Construction Group Board site visit – I was keen to capture the sheer scale and ingenuity of these sites as well as generating photo and video content to be used in different scenarios – the team did not disappoint – Jake was especially keen to get stuck in and really push the boundaries of his photography experience and was a real joy and pleasure to work with. I look forward to working with Jake and the SAZ MEDIA team in the very near future.”

PHOTOGRAPHY, FUN AND WELLBEING: Our incredible photography workshop at The Garden House!
Our recent workshop was an incredible day full of adventure and excitement as we hosted our photography workshop for eight young people at The Garden House, a beautiful charity and community farm located in Marple Bridge! The location was perfect for our young photographers, with its scenic beauty, charming landscape, and adorable animals that were just waiting to be captured on camera.
As soon as we arrived, the group grabbed their cameras, eager to learn how to capture the perfect shot. Our Executive Director, Sara Auty, led the way along side with Gemma & Simra, teaching them about different angles and techniques that would make their photographs stand out from the crowd. It was amazing to see the young photographers so enthusiastic and committed to getting that perfect shot, no matter what it took - they even got down on the ground and looked nothing less than professional photographers taking the perfect shot!
The young photographers had a blast capturing the farm animals and the beautiful landscape, including the river that flowed across the forest surrounded by majestic trees in different sizes, beautiful and unique patterns and the nature around us overall.
After a few hours of snapping away, we took a well-deserved break for lunch. We had a lovely set-up under a tent, and as we enjoyed our lunch, the young people bonded over their shared love for photography and even played some table tennis afterwards. It was a great opportunity for them to bond over their shared passion for photography and make new friends.
During the workshop, we took some interviews with the young photographers, and it was inspiring to hear them talk about how much fun they were having and how they couldn't wait to learn more. We could see how much they had learned already as they shared their incredible shots with each other. Make sure to follow us on social media to see their inspiring interviews!
As the day came to a close, we were so happy to see our young photographers leaving The Garden House brimming with excitement, feeling inspired to continue pursuing their love of photography. It was an unforgettable experience for all of us, and we can't wait to host more workshops that inspire young people to capture the beauty around them.
In short, our photography workshop at The Garden House was an incredible success! It was a day full of fun, learning, and enjoyment that left us all feeling inspired and motivated. We can't wait to do it again soon!
Our photography workshops not only provide a fun and engaging activity for young people but they also have a positive impact on their wellbeing. Taking photographs allows them to focus on the present moment, be mindful of their surroundings, and express themselves creatively. It can also boost their confidence as they learn new skills and see the beautiful results of their work. In addition, our workshops offer a supportive and inclusive environment where young people can connect with others who share their interests and feel a sense of community. By fostering their passion for photography, we hope to contribute to their overall wellbeing and personal growth.

ISG Site Photography in Sheffield
Exploring photography in construction: Jake Cunningham's Account
Date: Monday, 13th March 2023 Role: Camera Trainee
In the fast-paced world of photography and videography, every day brings new adventures and valuable lessons. Jake had the privilege of working alongside ISG in Sheffield, who are currently engaged in the exciting renovation of a Nationwide bank. In this blog, our camera trainee, Jake will share the highlights of his experience in his own words.
The day kicked off at 10 am, as I arrived on-site and was greeted with a brief but informative tour of the building including the Health and Safety requirements in this building construction zone.
Equipped with my trusty Canon EOS 6D camera, I set out to capture the essence of the bank's interior. Additionally, my lens aimed to capture the hardworking builders in action, thoroughly working on diverse projects such as the installation of ATM machines and electrical cabling, among others.
Throughout the day, valuable lessons unfolded, shaping my understanding of this dynamic field:
- The importance of finding a careful balance became clear. While ensuring the builders were aware of my presence it was crucial to stay out of their way.
- My grasp of the Canon EOS 6D camera expanded, as I explored its functionalities and discovered the most suitable settings to capture the unique environment of a construction site.
- I gained an invaluable insight: photographing a building goes beyond documenting the builders' actions, it is about capturing the spirit of the individuals involved and the architectural magnificence that surrounds them.
Today's project proved to be an exceptional learning experience, leaving me eager and motivated for the upcoming projects that lie ahead. Each new opportunity allows me to expand my knowledge, hone my skills, and contribute to the artistry of photography and videography. - Jake Cunningham.
